To make a photo smaller without visible quality loss, send it as a file to the free bot @BgRemoverPhotoBot and tap 🗜 Compress — the bot replies with a lighter file and shows the size before and after. If the picture is already well compressed, it tells you so and the try isn't counted.
Open in Telegram: @BgRemoverPhotoBotMain guide: Remove the background from a photo for free
Step by step
Open the bot
Tap Open in Telegram, then Start in the chat with @BgRemoverPhotoBot.
Send the photo as a file
Tap 📎 → File so the bot gets the original. JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC up to 20 MB work.
Tap “Compress”
Under What should I do with the picture? tap 🗜 Compress.
Check the result
The bot sends the new file with a line like “Was 4.2 MB → now 1.1 MB (−74%)”. It comes as a file, so Telegram doesn't compress it again.
| Button | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| 🗜 Compress | Re-saves as JPG at quality 75 (pictures with transparency: WEBP) | You need a smaller file at the same resolution |
| 📐 Size | Shrinks to 50%, 1080 px or 2048 px on the long side | A website or form asks for a smaller picture |
| 🔄 Format | Converts to JPG, PNG or WEBP | You need a particular format |
Is it really “without losing quality”?
Strictly speaking, JPG compression always drops some detail. Quality 75 is a common setting at which the difference is usually hard to see on a phone screen. Keep the original if you may need to print or edit the photo later.
About the bot

Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes. Compressing counts towards the 30 free photo edits a day; a try that doesn't make the file smaller isn't counted.
Does compression remove the location from the photo?
Yes. EXIF and XMP metadata, including GPS location, are not copied into the result. The colour profile is kept.
Why send the photo as a file?
When a picture is sent as a photo, Telegram stores its own copy of it in several sizes. As a file, the bot gets your original.
Can I compress a PDF too?
Yes, with @PhotoToPdfMakerBot: send the PDF and tap 🗜 Compress this.
